Pinch of Thought - from BLOG to VLOG

A picture paints …….I’ve been publishing the Pinch of Thought blog for a few years now. As regular readers know, a big part of playing the Influencer game is getting across new technology. Video is not new, but, it’s becoming increasingly important because most search engines now rank it above written blogs. My (cunning) plan is to create a written blog each week and then a video version - generally released the following week. Below is the first version. So it’s the same content as last week.…See More

Build your INFLUENCER 5 Pack to stand out in uncertain times

I recently undertook some research around job prospects in ‘the future of work’. Long story short, opinions are polarised. Some expert bodies believe that technology will cut 20-30% of all jobs (both low and high-skill). Others argue that a raft of new roles with Star Trek-sexy titles will materialise and we’ll all be just…See More

It pays to walk

Tech that’s finally good for us!There’s no little irony that it has taken a technological gizmo to provoke business leaders to get off their corporate bums and engage in that lowest tech of activities – the humble walk. It all started with the Fitbit - a watch-like device that measures the number of steps taken by its…See More

How to make Collaboration a skill not a soundbite

Collaboration is one of those bullshit bingo buzz-words tossed around organisations like confetti. It implies ‘teamwork’ and that ‘we’re all in it together’. Which of course is how it should be – it’s just rarely true. In many businesses the environment is anything but collaborative. Getting ahead is typically a…See More

Pinch of Thought - 3 Small principles to Supersize your performance

"Winter is coming”The cold is about to rip through Sydney. OK, not exactly “Winter is coming” a la ‘Game of Thrones’, but the mercury is about to ‘plummet’ below 12 degrees!I ride a (big red) motorbike - the only way to ‘fly’ in the log-jammed emerald city. I love the freedom to zip in and out, land close to where I need to be and (whisper this) park at the airport for FREE (a four letter word at Macquarie Group). But sitting still in the chill can get cold. It’s then I unleash my secret weapon…See More

Create, Connect & Compete to unlock your hidden Super Powers

Feeling overwhelmed? You are not alone. As I scan my world or work, friends and family, I see more and more people struggling. Australians are portrayed as a laid back bunch of irreverents - always at the bar, the beach or the barbie. In truth, most are more likely to be at the grindstone - particularly in Sydney - one of the most expensive cities on the planet. Nice view, shame we don’t have time to take it in.Blame it on the VUCAWe can put most of this down to our newly-minted ‘VUCA’ world.…See More

Leadership lessons from a small boat

This weekend, I’m off to Perth with my rowing crew, the Warriewood Crustys. We’ve already won Silver at the NSW State Championships. Now we venture west with our eyes on the main prize – Australian Gold! We’ve worked hard and improved out of site. We’ve also learned what it takes to perform at the highest level – lessons…See More
