This might be true for some truly novice workers, and it can be true only for a few months. Money is the most important point for your employees and is the basis of good work atmosphere and healthy relationships inside the company. However, it’s far from being the only important thing for your workers. Here are a few other things you could do to boost your team members’ morale.
Your personal relationship with your employees is crucial to keeping spirits high at your company. Try to find a moment or two to listen to their problems and their suggestions. You won’t always be able to offer them a solution, but at least be open and honest about it. Making promises that never come true or just bouncing them to your HR department won’t do any good. They get to spend the awarded money the way they want and at the same time remember that it was you who provided them with this bit of extra cash.
Besides money, an opportunity for personal and professional development is one of the main reasons why people choose a certain job. Thus, organizing occasional training courses can be a great way to keep people motivated. At the same, time you’ll benefit by getting a more qualified workforce. They’ll surely be happy to learn some new skills and get another useful reference for their resume. Just make sure that the training session you set up is well-thought out and devised to actually help them and make them learn something. Otherwise, they’ll just see it as a waste of time and you’ll achieve nothing by it.
As a manager or an owner of a business, you are the person with the ultimate power and authority in your company. Nevertheless, don’t be too rigid when it comes to minor, insignificant issues. If it doesn’t do any harm to your business, you should allow your workers to work from home from time to time, or to choose to come to work an hour later or earlier.
