Australia, STAND UP for your health campaign - January 2017.

Our excessive sitting patterns are killing us. It sounds dramatic I know. But it's the truth. Humans are not designed to sit for prolonged periods, day in, day out. The average office worker sits for 12 hours per day, including time in the office, commuting, at home and even leisure activities.

Excessive sitting is now linked to a host of health problems, including:

  • Weight gain and diabetes
  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Diabetes
  • Back pain
  • Neck pain and headaches
  • Postural problems
  • RSI

The solution - spend less time sitting, and more time standing!

That is the inspiration for the Stand For Your Health campaign, running in January across Australia. The campaign is hosted by UpDown Desk. It is aimed at raising awareness of the health risks associated with excessive sitting, and encouraging people to stand more throughout the day.

(Full disclosure - I own UpDown Desk)

To help facilitate more people to stand up throughout the day, UpDown Desk are offering their standing desks for 70% off the average retail price of comparable desks throughout January.

As part of the campaign, I will be posting an article daily throughout January, discussing healthy working tips, the dangers of sitting and the benefits of standing.

If you would like any info on the desks, visit www.updowndesk.com.au.

I hope you enjoy the articles. If you would like me to cover anything in particular, please email me at jordan@theergonomicphysio.com.au.
